Whether you had been trying, were completely surprised or adopted, life handed you a baby, whether you were ready or not. Now you have to figure out how be a mom, which includes midnight feedings, diaper changes, spit up, fevers to soothe, cries that never seem to end and a million other things. But it’s also hugs you get for no reason, smiles, “I love yous,” midnight cuddles and the list goes on. Motherhood is filled with ups and downs, it’s a roller coaster and you just have to jump on for the ride.
Days may seem never ending and years go by way too fast. We were built for this. When God created women, He knew all that we would have to endure and whether you believe it or not, you are built to be a mom. Not just any mom, but your child’s mom. Each child is different and God equipped you to be able to raise your child. The amount of love that we have for our children is completely indescribable. From the first time you hold your child, to the time they roll over, sit up, stand up, say their first word, crawl, walk and just get older we mothers are there for it all. I’ve adopted the phrase “all the feels” because each moment is bittersweet – your baby is growing up which can make you sad when you look back at their pictures but it’s also such a happy time because they are learning new things, discovering the world and becoming the person you are raising them to be.
Whether you were planning on being a mother or not, when life hands you a baby, you just have to jump with both feet in. Your child is going to depend on you and there’s nothing that will ever prepare you for it. No blog post, no article, no advice, no previous experience, but from the second you hold your child, you instantly know “I can do this.” You may not know what to do half the time but you will figure it out. God created you to do just that. You are a mom. A job that isn’t easy but a job that will never be more rewarding.
