It wasn’t even 8AM and all the pillows were in the family room and the boys were using them as a DIY trampoline. I had just finished my breakfast and was ready to call it quits. Forget school today. Just go and take a bath. Leave the house. It’s all over.
Needless to say it wasn’t turning out to be the perfect day I had planned. Have you had those days? Those days you just don’t want to get up or continue plowing through because it just seems hopeless? I know I do. It doesn’t look pretty and I sometimes do the wrong thing, but when those days happen I know the best thing to do is to start a second day..or a third day, or fourth.
So I took a deep breath, said a prayer and picked up the school books. We sat down and we completed a few lessons! We studied a painting together, we talked about Britain, we made it through. Sometimes that is all you need to do.
So mama, when you feel the day is over at 8AM, 10AM, 1PM… know that starting a second day is the best option. It’s not always easy, and it can be rough, but it is worth it.
I want my kids to remember a mom who knew how to have hope and grace and not stress and yelling. I want them to learn to have patience and not frustration.
Here are a few tips to start a second day:
Take 5-15 minutes and rest. Put some music on, go in another room, light a candle.
Pick one task you were absolutely not wanting to do and do it!
Go outside, or if weather doesn’t permit get in the kitchen and bake something.
Take the do over mama and hit refresh. It’s a life changer and helpful to all in the home.
