My baby boy is starting to walk, and that means I need to do a better job of keeping shoes on his feet, so today, I’m happy to share one of my new favorite brands for baby shoes, Maize & Maple.
Will is wearing the “Cocoa Brown Soft Suede Wingtip Oxford” here, and I’m swooning over how cute these are! When I was younger, I imagined having girls to dress up, but I’ve grown into my role as a boy mom, and enjoy finding new favorite pieces to share. These are comfortable enough for him to crawl around in, but I get to feel like he’s more stylish than normal when I look at him.
Kate Cannon, owner of Maize & Maple, has been a creative and a maker as long as she can remember. She started sewing as a way to customize her young family’s wardrobes and Halloween costumes on a tight college student budget, and the passion grew from there. She started making moccasins for her soon-to-be-born second daughter from a free online pattern, but wanted a unique design with clean lines, rich colors, and well-crafted details.
From there, her signature bow and eyelet scallop style was born, which she sells under her brand, Maize & Maple, on Etsy. Soon, Kate added her wingtip style as an option for boys, although she’s been pleased by how many of that style are purchased for little girls, too.
“I love it when customers surprise me with how they use the products,” she said.
All her designs are cute (the scallops!) but these wingtip moccs are my favorites! The oxford detail on the toes adds such a sweet little masculine touch to these moccasins, which are so cozy and cute for kids’ feet, but can sometimes feel a little girly to me.
Her new fall metallic line is AMAZING. Or should I say Ah-MAIZE-ing? All jokes aside…look at that rose gold!
She also has some other fun items in her shop, including bows, leather pouch purses, and even furry animal boots that are so fun. Totally check those out, too!
Even my husband, a non-moccasin fan, thought these were cute, and the outfits I’ve already created. I can’t wait for more fall style inspiration as the weather cools off, too.
He’s just so handsome! (Shameless #mombrag, #sorrynotsorry!)
I will say that I was slightly bummed that these are fairly big on my little guy, but that’s actually a blessing I guess, since it means he’ll be able to wear them a lot longer before growing out of them! I ordered a size 4 since he had a pair of shoes in a size 3 that were already too tight on his toes, but these are longer than I expected. I’m not sure if these run big or the other shoes we had run small, so I’d just recommend messaging Kate directly to ensure you get the perfect size if you’re wanting these for a specific occasion.
And, be sure to order pretty quickly if you see something you like (I’m eyeing the antique gold she’s releasing for fall!) because all of her moccasins and purses are limited quantity, to allow for freshness in colors from season to season, and to keep things interesting for Kate personally.
“I have such a passion for creating, and I’m so grateful I have the opportunity to make things I love and see them enjoyed by others,” Kate said.
