Making Disciples

June 6, 2016

I have a confession to make.

There have been more times than not when I sit listening to the “Go and make disciples” sermon, and feel totally inadequate. There has always been a part of me when I hear this preached that thinks, “Ok, but I’m not called to go to South America.”

I sometimes feel like when that message is taught it’s to a very specific call, to actually go out into the mission field across seas and to the poorest countries. And while I 100% believe this is part of the call, I think there’s a lot of opportunities to disciple right where we are.

“Jesus undeterred, went right ahead and gave His charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day, right up to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20 MSG

Did you hear that?! Everyone we meet.

Mamas, these tiny humans are our disciples. We were created by the God who made the Universe to teach, show, and grow these tiny ones in Him.

We don’t have to go on an overseas trip. Making disciples starts at home. Jesus called us by name, to raise these babies up.

But we have to start with ourselves. Our heart has to always be pointing to Jesus, because that’s the only way we’ll get that through to our kids. Our message needs to be love and grace. Our words need to be His Words. Do you get what I mean here?

We have to stop thinking that because we don’t board a plane, train or bus we aren’t making disciples. Our homes are under attack more now than ever before. The enemy is trying his stinking hardest to get in. To get ahold of our babies (tiny and grown). No matter our kids age, we can’t ever think we’ve done enough discipling. Jesus never did.

Mama’s…we’ve got a lot to do. But. “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” -Philippians 4:13

And hallelujah for that.
